Hablaz Privacy Policy
Effective date: 30 September 2026. This policy explains what information Hablaz handles, what stays on your device, the little that leaves it, and the choices you have. It covers the Hablaz app and hablaz.com.
1. The short version
- Hablaz works without an account, and nothing you say, hear, type, photograph or translate is sent to us or to anyone else. Speech recognition, translation, voices, catch-ups and summaries all run on your device.
- The App connects to the internet for four things only: downloading and updating language packs, models and voices; checking which features and languages are switched on; sending anonymous usage statistics, if you switch them on; and sending crash reports, unless you switch them off.
- None of those contain your conversations, your text, your photos or your translations, and none of them are linked to your name, email, phone number or Apple Account.
- There are no adverts, no data brokers, no cross-app tracking and no advertising identifier.
- You control the statistics and crash-report switches in Settings, Privacy, and Reset and Erase All Content removes everything the App keeps on your device.
Who is responsible. Hablaz is a product of SWDGTL Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 12704685, registered office 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom. SWDGTL Ltd is the data controller for any personal information described in this policy. Contact us about privacy at hi@swdgtl.com, or about anything else through hablaz.com/support or support@hablaz.com.
2. What stays on your device
2.1 Everything the App does with your words happens on your iPhone. Speech is recognised, translated and spoken by models that run locally. Camera, photo, screenshot and document text is read and translated locally. Catch-ups and conversation summaries are written by a language model that runs locally. No audio, text, image or translation is uploaded for processing, and there is no cloud AI behind any feature.
2.2 The App keeps the following on your device, and nowhere else unless you choose to share it or, in future, turn on an optional account feature (section 7):
- Transcripts and summaries of your conversations, with the time, the languages and how long they lasted.
- People. If you name a speaker, the App stores the name, colour or picture you chose and a numeric voice profile so it can recognise that voice again. A voice profile is a set of numbers derived from speech; it is not a recording, and no audio can be reconstructed or replayed from it. It is created and stored only on your device, is never sent to us, and is excluded from device backups. Because it can identify a person by their voice, it may count as biometric data under some laws, including in Illinois, Texas and Washington in the United States. The App tells you this when you first save a person. Only save a voice profile for someone who has agreed to it; you are responsible for any consent the law requires from them. A voice profile is deleted when you delete that person, when you use Reset and Erase All Content, or when you delete the App, and is never kept beyond that.
- Audio is never stored. The microphone is processed live and discarded. The App does not record conversations.
- Pictures and documents you translate in Visual mode, and the translations laid over them, for as long as you keep that session or snippet.
- Settings and choices: languages, voices, volumes, appearance, the statistics and crash-report switches, onboarding progress, and a record of which version of the Terms of Use you agreed to and when.
- Downloaded models, language packs and voices.
- A local queue of usage statistics and crash reports waiting to be sent, described in section 3.
2.3 Because this information lives on your device, it is protected by your device passcode and by iOS, and it may be included in your iCloud or computer backups under your own backup settings. Backups are Apple's service, governed by Apple's privacy policy, and we have no access to them.
2.4 Sharing is your choice. When you use the share sheet to send a transcript, summary, translation or image to another app or person, that content leaves the App under your control and is then handled by the app or service you sent it to.
2.5 System Audio. On supported devices the App can transcribe and translate sound the device itself is playing, such as a video or a call, using iOS screen sharing. Only the sound is used, it is processed on the device like microphone audio, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. You are responsible for any consent the law requires from other people in a call.
3. What the App sends over the internet
The App makes four kinds of connection. None of them carries anything you said, typed, photographed or translated, a device name, or an error message that could contain such text.
3.1 Downloads and updates. When you choose a language, voice or feature that is not already on your device, the App downloads it from our servers, hosted with Cloudflare. Once a day, over Wi-Fi only, the App may also fetch one small file to check whether a model it already uses has an improved version, and download that in the background. Like any download, these requests reveal your IP address and which files were fetched (and so which language or voice you chose) to the server. Cloudflare keeps standard request logs for a short period for security and reliability; we do not build any profile from them.
3.2 Feature and language switches. Shortly after launch, and occasionally while the App is idle, it asks our configuration service which features and languages are currently switched on, so we can hold back something found broken without releasing an update. If usage statistics are off, this request is identical from every device: a shared anonymous identifier plus the App version, build, operating system and version, and whether it is a development build. Nothing about you, your languages or your device is included, and the service is set not to turn your IP address into a location. If usage statistics are on, the request carries the same anonymous install identifier as the statistics (3.3) so a gradual rollout can be measured.
3.3 Usage statistics (off until you switch them on). With your permission, the App sends anonymous statistics about how it is used: which screens and features are used, event names, language pairs, settings values, durations, counts, the device model and the App and operating system versions. These are filed under a random install identifier generated on your device, which has no connection to your Apple Account, phone number, email or device serial number. They are processed by PostHog, hosted in the European Union. Statistics never include text, audio, images, translations, transcripts, summaries, names of people or any content.
3.4 Crash and diagnostic reports (on until you switch them off). The App sends crash reports, hang reports and warning- and error-level log lines so we can find and fix problems. A log line leaves as the developer-written template with only numbers filled in; error messages that could contain text are excluded. Reports are filed under the install identifier only, are never joined to an account, and are processed by PostHog in the European Union.
3.5 Held before you answer. Statistics from your first minutes in the App, before the welcome flow asks for your choice, are kept on the device only and marked as held. If you say yes they become sendable; if you say no or skip the question they are deleted; if you never answer, they are deleted after seven days.
3.6 When it sends. Statistics and reports are stored on the device first and uploaded later, only when the App is idle, the device is cool and not in Low Power Mode, and the network is not in Low Data Mode. Nothing you do ever waits on them.
3.7 No tracking. The App does not use the advertising identifier, does not link data to other companies' data, and does not track you across apps or websites. Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt does not apply because there is nothing to ask permission for. Our App Store privacy label declares Usage Data and Diagnostics as collected, not linked to you and not used for tracking.
4. Your choices
4.1 Two switches, in Settings, Privacy. "Usage statistics" is off until you switch it on. "Crash reports" is on until you switch it off. The welcome flow asks about both when you first use the App. Either switch takes effect immediately, and switching one off deletes anything of that kind that has not yet been sent. Switching usage statistics off and on again starts a fresh anonymous identifier, so old and new statistics cannot be joined.
4.2 Neither choice changes how the App works. Every feature works the same whether the switches are on or off.
4.3 Deleting your content. Transcripts, summaries, people, pictures and settings can be deleted individually in the App at any time, and you can set transcripts and summaries to delete themselves automatically after a period you choose. Reset and Erase All Content, at the bottom of Settings, erases everything the App keeps on the device, including downloaded models, your choices, the consent record and any statistics or reports not yet sent, and the App next opens as a fresh install. Deleting the App from your device also removes its data. These actions are permanent.
4.4 Data already sent. Statistics and crash reports that have already been uploaded are anonymous and are not linked to you, so we cannot find yours to delete them from within the App. If you want us to try, contact hi@swdgtl.com with the install identifier shown in Settings, Privacy, and we will handle the request manually.
4.5 iOS controls. You can revoke the microphone, camera, photo, notification and screen-sharing permissions at any time in iOS Settings. Revoking one disables the feature that needs it and nothing else.
5. Permissions the App asks for
Each permission is requested only when you first use the feature that needs it, and can be passed over. All processing happens on the device.
| Permission | Used for | Not used for |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Hearing a conversation for live transcription and translation, and enrolling a voice you choose to save | Recording; no audio is stored or sent |
| Camera | Reading and translating text in front of the lens, and collecting pictures to translate | Anything other than reading text; frames are not stored unless you take one |
| Photo library | Choosing pictures and screenshots to translate | Scanning or uploading your library |
| Files | Opening PDFs and text documents to translate | Anything beyond the document you choose |
| Notifications | Telling you when a long download or setup has finished or failed | Marketing |
| Screen sharing (System Audio) | Transcribing sound the device is playing, on devices that support it; iOS shows this as screen sharing but only the sound is used | Capturing or storing the screen |
The App also reads the device's motion sensors, without a permission prompt, only to tell when the phone is being held still enough for the camera to read text.
6. hablaz.com, support and email
6.1 The website. hablaz.com is hosted with Cloudflare. Visiting it, or opening the Terms of Use, this policy or the support page from inside the App, sends the usual web request to Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived request logs (including IP address and browser type) for security and reliability. The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. If we use website analytics they are cookie-free and aggregate, and we will name the provider here.
6.2 Support. When you contact us through hablaz.com/support or support@hablaz.com, we receive what you send: your name if you give it, your email address so we can reply, your message, and any screenshots, transcripts or details you choose to attach. We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem you describe, and we keep support correspondence for up to two years so we can follow up on recurring issues. Please do not send us anything you would not want us to see; we never ask for your conversations.
6.3 Email we send. We send email through Resend, a transactional email provider. Today that is limited to replies to support requests. If accounts are introduced (section 7), sign-in links will be sent the same way. We do not send marketing email, and if we ever start, it will be with your consent and with an unsubscribe link in every message.
6.4 Press and partnerships. Enquiries to support@hablaz.com are handled the same way as support requests.
7. Purchases, accounts and cloud sync
7.1 Today. The current version of Hablaz has no purchases and no accounts. Nothing in this section applies until those features are released, and we will update this policy before they are.
7.2 Purchases. When Hablaz Pro is introduced, subscriptions will be sold through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles your payment details; we never see them. To know whether your device is entitled to Pro, the App will use RevenueCat, a subscription service, which receives an anonymous app-user identifier and Apple's purchase receipt, and nothing about your conversations. Refunds and billing are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
7.3 Accounts. If accounts are introduced they will be optional, and the App without one will remain the whole app. Signing in will use an email magic link and nothing else; no password is created or stored. An account will hold your email address, a name and picture if you choose to add them, and usage totals such as time in conversation and number of conversations. It will never hold audio or voice profiles, because none exist to send.
7.4 Cloud sync. With an account, you will be able to switch on syncing of transcripts and summaries between your devices. Only when that switch is on will transcripts and summaries be stored on our servers, encrypted in transit and at rest, in a European Union region. Turning sync off stops further uploads and deletes nothing; "Remove synced conversations" deletes what the server holds and leaves your device copies alone. Deleting a conversation on a device deletes it from the account too. Deleting the account, from inside the App, removes everything it holds.
7.5 Linking statistics to an account. If you sign in with usage statistics on, the anonymous install identifier is joined to your account's internal identifier (never your email) so we can understand usage across your devices. Signing out or switching statistics off starts a fresh anonymous identifier. Crash reports are never joined to an account.
7.6 Advertising. If advertising is introduced for free users, it will be described here first, including what any advertising partner receives, and the App Store privacy label will be updated. We will not introduce cross-app tracking.
8. Who we share with, and where data goes
8.1 We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only organisations that handle information on our behalf are service providers bound by contracts that limit them to providing the service:
| Provider | What it does for Hablaz | What it receives | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple | App Store distribution, purchases, iOS, system voices, backups | Whatever Apple's own services collect under Apple's privacy policy | Global |
| Cloudflare | Hosts hablaz.com and stores and delivers language packs, models and voices | IP address and standard request logs for downloads and page visits | Global network; logs held briefly |
| PostHog | Anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and feature switches | Install identifier, event names, App and OS versions, device model, crash reports | European Union |
| Resend | Sends our email | The recipient address and message content of emails we send | United States |
| RevenueCat (when Pro launches) | Subscription entitlements | Anonymous app-user identifier and Apple purchase receipt | United States |
8.2 We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of users, the public or SWDGTL Ltd, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to it.
8.3 International transfers. SWDGTL Ltd is in the United Kingdom. Statistics and crash reports stay in the European Union, which the UK recognises as providing adequate protection. Where a provider processes information in the United States or elsewhere, we rely on the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or on the provider's certification under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and on the fact that the information involved is minimal and, for statistics, anonymous.
8.4 Legal bases (UK law). Usage statistics: your consent, asked for in the welcome flow and withdrawable at any time in Settings, Privacy. Crash reports, downloads, feature switches and website logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the App working, secure and improving, balanced against the minimal and anonymous nature of the data; for crash reports, the welcome flow gives you the choice up front and you can object at any time by switching them off. Support, purchases and accounts: performance of our agreement with you. Legal disclosures: legal obligation.
9. How long we keep things, and how we protect them
9.1 On your device: for as long as you keep it. Transcripts and summaries can auto-delete on a schedule you set. Voice profiles last only as long as the person they belong to exists in the App and are deleted when you delete that person, Reset and Erase All Content, or delete the App. The local queue of unsent statistics and reports expires by itself: log lines after 14 days, other records after 90 days, and held pre-consent statistics after 7 days.
9.2 Usage statistics and crash reports already sent are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted or reduced to aggregate totals that cannot be traced to an install identifier.
9.3 Support correspondence: up to 2 years from the last message.
9.4 Website and download logs at Cloudflare: held briefly under Cloudflare's standard retention, typically days, not months.
9.5 Account data and synced content (when offered): for as long as the account exists, and deleted within 30 days of you deleting the account, except where the law requires us to keep a record for longer.
9.6 Security. The App's design is its main protection: what never leaves the device cannot be lost from a server. What does travel is encrypted in transit (TLS), our providers encrypt it at rest, and access is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach affecting personal information we will tell the affected people and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
10. Children
Hablaz is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, and the App's design means it collects almost none from anyone. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, for example through a support request, contact hi@swdgtl.com and we will delete it. Parents and guardians of users under 18 are responsible for their use of the App, as the Terms of Use explain.
11. Your rights
11.1 Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable form, and withdraw consent (for usage statistics, simply switch them off). Because almost everything Hablaz handles is on your device or anonymous, most of these rights are exercised directly: delete content in the App, use Reset and Erase All Content, or flip the switches in Settings, Privacy. For anything we hold ourselves, such as support correspondence or a future account, email hi@swdgtl.com. We will respond within one month, may ask you to confirm your identity, and will not charge unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.
11.2 United Kingdom. Your rights are under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), though we would welcome the chance to resolve any concern first.
11.3 United States. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with privacy laws have the rights of access, deletion, correction and portability described above, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Because Hablaz does not identify you, we may be unable to verify or act on a request about anonymous statistics. Voice profiles (section 2.2) are created, stored and deleted entirely on your device; we never collect, receive or hold them, and if your state's biometric privacy law applies to them, the notice and consent it requires are between you and the person whose voice you save. Hablaz is not directed at children under 13 (COPPA).
11.4 Canada. Your rights are under PIPEDA and, in Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector. Our privacy officer can be reached at hi@swdgtl.com. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information. A French version of this policy is published at hablaz.com and available before you accept the Terms of Use.
11.5 Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, your rights are under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles; complaints may be made to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. In New Zealand, under the Privacy Act 2020; complaints to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
11.6 Singapore. Your rights are under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012. Our data protection officer can be reached at hi@swdgtl.com. Complaints may be made to the Personal Data Protection Commission.
11.7 Brazil. Your rights are under the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), including confirmation, access, correction, anonymisation, deletion, portability and information about sharing. Our encarregado (data protection officer) can be reached at hi@swdgtl.com. Complaints may be made to the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD). A Portuguese version of this policy is published at hablaz.com.
11.8 Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. Your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition (ARCO rights) and any further rights under your country's data protection law apply, and this policy serves as our privacy notice under those laws. Requests go to hi@swdgtl.com. Complaints may be made to your national authority: INAI (Mexico), the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (Colombia), the Autoridad Nacional de Protección de Datos Personales (Peru), the Agencia de Protección de Datos Personales once established under Chile's Law 21.719 (until then the Servicio Nacional del Consumidor), the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (Argentina), and the Unidad Reguladora y de Control de Datos Personales (Uruguay).
11.9 Elsewhere. If you use Hablaz outside the countries where it is offered, we will still honour the rights above as far as we are able.
12. Changes to this policy and contact
12.1 We will update this policy when the App changes in a way that affects it, for example when accounts, cloud sync, Hablaz Pro or advertising are introduced, when we add or change a service provider, or when we launch in new countries. The effective date at the top shows the current version. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice in the App or on hablaz.com before they take effect. Older versions are available on request.
12.2 Privacy questions and requests: hi@swdgtl.com. Everything else: hablaz.com/support or support@hablaz.com. Post: SWDGTL Ltd, 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom.
12.3 This policy is written in English. Where the law of a country we serve requires a version in another language, we publish it at hablaz.com; other translations are provided for convenience. If there is any conflict, the English version applies unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
